A Brief History of the Dorn Method

The Dorn Method was founded by Dieter Dorn, a sawmill owner from the Bavarian region of Germany. After experiencing severe back pain, he received help from a local farmer who used gentle, movement-based techniques to ease his discomfort. Impressed by his recovery, Dieter learned the method and began helping people in his community—correcting leg length imbalances, easing headaches, and improving joint function.
 

Over time, the technique spread across Germany and beyond. Today it is practiced by thousands of therapists around the world and valued for its simplicity, safety, and effectiveness in addressing common spinal and joint issues.

How the Dorn Method Works

The Dorn Method focuses on restoring natural alignment by combining two key elements:

1. Gentle Pressure from the Practitioner

The therapist applies light thumb or hand pressure to the vertebrae or joints that are out of alignment.

2. Active Movement by the Client

At the same time, the client performs a slow, rhythmic movement—such as swinging the arm or leg—which relaxes surrounding muscles.
This creates a “distracted” state in the muscles, making it easier for the bones to guide back into their correct positions without force or jerking movements.
